Ahoa is a pioneer in the use of new generation probiotics to improve oral health
Periodontal problems, such as gingivitis or pyorrhea, are very common among the adult population. In fact, in Catalonia alone 1,1 million adults have periodontal diseases, one of the most prevalent types of diseases in humans.
From bleeding gums when eating or brushing our teeth to the loss of teeth, the consequences of periodontal disease go beyond aesthetics, and even oral health in general. For example, it has been proven that they have a negative effect on cardiovascular diseases or pregnancy.
But the classic treatment may not always be 100% effective. The use of antibiotics to combat the pathogenic bacteria that cause periodontal diseases alters the entire flora of the mouth, and does not always have the expected result.
For this reason, the most advanced treatments combine the use of antibiotics as shock treatment with probiotics, which are applied for a certain period or as maintenance on a regular basis. The latter helps to control periodontal diseases also in the medium and long term.
Ahoa, a dental clinic that offers dental treatments, has been one of the first private clinics in Barcelona to use a new generation of probiotics, ProlacSan®. This probiotic counteracts the most aggressive and harmful pathogenic bacteria for oral health, introducing two strains that replace harmful bacteria with positive ones, Lactobacillus Brevis and Lactobacillus Plantarum. These are selective in the elimination of harmful bacteria, so they do not damage or eliminate all the flora.
This probiotic fights pathogenic bacteria that cause cavities, gingivitis and halitosis or bad breath, among other oral problems.
ProlacSan® is based on the patented formula of AB-Dentalac, developed by the company AB-Biotics. The formula, in addition to the European market, has intellectual property recognition in the United States, Australia and, since March this year, in China.
According to Dr. Iñaki Cercadillo, director of the Ahoa Dental Clinic, "treatment with probiotics significantly improves the prognosis of periodontal diseases". For this reason, at Ahoa they have been using state-of-the-art probiotics for more than two years for certain treatments, with much more positive results for their patients than traditional treatments.
