At the Ahoa Clinic in Barcelona, we have been performing this type of treatment for 20 years and we specialize in immediate load implantology. What is a dental implant? Implantology in Barcelona

Dental implants are titanium devices that will act as artificial roots. They are implanted in the mandibular or maxillary bone, which creates a solid base to place dental prostheses. Implants are the best substitute for lost or deteriorated natural teeth, they allow a total recovery and/or improvement of both esthetics and functionality.

What else can we do for you?

Esthetic implantology

In case of missing teeth in a visible area of the mouth, we perform an aesthetic study by digitally designing the patient’s smile. In this way, we assess the need to improve the aesthetics, not only of the teeth, but also of the gums, so you can see how your smile will look like before the treatment!

Full-arch implantology

We can rehabilitate the absence of one tooth, several or all of the upper and/or lower teeth. If the entire arch needs to be replaced, you may be an ideal candidate for an All-on-Four treatment: four implants are placed and then all the teeth in the arch are joined together, hence the name, ‘all-on-four’.

Implantology with lack of bone

Bone loss makes the insertion of dental implants more complex, but thanks to a 3D image reconstruction of the jawbone and virtual surgery we can place them in a safe and predictable way. We can also perform tissue regeneration, preservation or modeling.

Virtual guided implantology

Through the design of an individualized intraoral surgical template we perform the implants in a simple and effective way, without the need for incisions or stitches in the gum. With dental implantology with guided surgery we achieve a much faster recovery and almost without discomfort.

Frequently asked questions

Are the results of invisible orthodontics long lasting?

Yes, the results of orthodontic treatment can be definitive, although it will be the orthodontist who will tell us what other actions we must take to ensure that the treatment is complete and does not reverse, such as wearing a retainer for a period of time to prevent the repositioned teeth from returning to their pre-treatment position.

Is invisible orthodontics painful?

The aim of orthodontic treatment is to return the teeth to their natural position, so it is normal to feel some slight discomfort or a sensation of pressure during the first few days of each phase of treatment, which disappears immediately. This discomfort can be felt in both traditional and invisible orthodontics, as it is a consequence of the teeth being repositioned.

Can it be applied to all cases requiring orthodontics?

As a general rule, this treatment can be used for any dental malposition problem, such as overcrowding, excessive separation, overbite, crossbite… In other words, it is used both for minor corrections and to treat more complex cases.

How long does invisible orthodontic treatment last?

Treatment time with invisible orthodontics can sometimes be somewhat longer than with traditional orthodontics. This is because the final phase of any orthodontic treatment, called refinement, is somewhat slower with aligner systems.

Does invisible orthodontics give the same result as normal orthodontic treatment?

Yes, this treatment offers excellent results. Currently, it is the option chosen by more professionals and patients. The final result achieved is the same, as long as the professional’s instructions are followed and the aligners are worn for the indicated daily time.

Is invisible orthodontics more expensive than traditional orthodontics?

Yes, it usually has a cost between 20% and 40% higher compared to conventional metal brackets. However, it is still the most chosen option because of its functional and esthetic comfort.

Can the aligners be removed whenever I want?

Yes, in fact, one of the advantages of this treatment is that the aligners can be removed to eat or, for example, if we have an important meeting or social event. However, we must keep in mind that if we do not wear the aligners for a minimum of 20 hours a day, the treatment will not be effective and will take longer.

Can I eat and drink normally if I wear invisible braces?

Yes, since the aligners can be removed to eat or drink, so they do not bother or retain food debris, as happens with braces. It is important to perform proper oral hygiene after each meal and replace the aligners as soon as possible.

Can I speak normally if I wear invisible braces?

In general, aligners do not affect the way we speak at all. There is simply an initial period of adaptation, during which we may have a feeling of strangeness due to the fact of having a foreign object in our mouth. However, this sensation disappears in a few days, as we get used to the aligners.

Can invisible orthodontics be used in children?

Yes, it is common to correct malposition problems during childhood, either with braces or invisible orthodontics. It should be borne in mind that, in the latter, the aligners are removable, so we must ensure that the child is responsible and wears them for the minimum number of hours per day indicated. In any case, it should be the professional who indicates the most appropriate treatment for each patient.

Does invisible orthodontics require special care?

The two main precautions to be taken with invisible orthodontics are, on the one hand, to wear the aligners for the minimum number of hours per day indicated by our dentist, and on the other hand, to perform proper oral hygiene after each meal and before putting the aligners back in place. The professional in charge of the treatment will indicate if any other special care is required.

Can I wear invisible braces if I have periodontal disease?

Before carrying out any orthodontic treatment, it is advisable to have the disease under control. It will be the specialist who will tell us what prior treatment should be carried out in the case of periodontal disease, whether orthodontics is advisable, and what extra care should be taken into account. Call us to make an appointment with our specialist and we will give you all the information you need to start your orthodontic treatment in a single visit.
