About Full Arch Implant Treatment
Full-arch implant treatment involves the placement of multiple dental implants in the maxilla or mandible to support a fixed or removable prosthesis that replaces all the teeth in the arch.
There are two main approaches:
- Fixed Prosthesis on Implants (All-on-4, All-on-6)
- Implant Retained Overdentures
How does Full Arch Implant treatment work?
- Evaluation of the bone structure of the maxilla or mandible.
- Strategic placement of multiple dental implants.
- Implants serve as a support for a dental prosthesis.
- The prosthesis can be fixed or removable.
- Procedure performed in several phases: implants, osseointegration, final prosthesis.
- Local or general anesthesia is used depending on the case.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Full-arch implant treatment involves the placement of multiple dental implants in the maxilla or mandible to support a fixed or removable prosthesis that replaces all the teeth in the arch. This procedure is ideal for patients who have lost all of their teeth in one arch and are looking for a long-lasting, esthetic solution.
-
The number of implants needed may vary depending on the type of prosthesis and the patient’s bone condition. Generally, four implants are used in the procedure known as All-on-4, and six implants in the All-on-6, to provide greater stability and support. In some cases of lack of bone or poor bone quality, it is necessary to increase the number of implants and up to 8 implants can be placed in the same arch.
-
The placement of a dental implant is performed under local anesthesia. In addition, conscious sedation can be applied, which minimizes any discomfort during the procedure. In full arch cases, sedation is highly recommended, not only for comfort during the procedure, but also because the intravenous medication will minimize any pain and swelling during the postoperative period. Our professionals ensure that each patient receives the proper care for a comfortable recovery, making a 24-hour follow-up to monitor the recovery.
-
The total treatment time can vary from 3 to 6 months, depending on the osseointegration process, which is the time it takes for the implant to fully integrate with the bone. In some cases, temporary teeth can be placed until the definitive prosthesis is ready.
-
Fixed prostheses on implants require rigorous oral hygiene, similar to that of natural teeth. This includes brushing at least twice a day, flossing, using the dental irrigator and regular visits to the clinic for the corresponding check-up: X-rays, removal of the prosthesis and professional cleaning. Implant-retained overdentures should be removed and cleaned daily, in addition to regular clinic checkups.
-
- Stability and Durability: They offer a more permanent and stable solution.
- Better Functionality: They allow chewing and speaking more effectively.
- Bone Preservation: They help prevent bone loss that can occur with traditional dentures.
- Superior esthetics: They provide a more natural appearance and improve patient confidence.
-
Ideal candidates are those in good general and oral health, who have sufficient bone in the maxilla or mandible to support the implants. A thorough evaluation is necessary to determine the patient’s suitability for treatment.
-
Although the success rate is high, complications may arise such as:
- Infection at the implant site: If the hygiene instructions are not followed properly.
- Implant rejection: Rare, but possible.
- Nerve injury or damage: May cause pain, numbness or tingling sensation.
- Sinus problems: Especially in the upper jaw, implants can penetrate the sinuses.
- Lack of osseointegration: The implant does not integrate properly with the bone, requiring a new attempt.
-
The success rate of full-arch implant treatment is greater than 95%, similar to that of single dental implants. The success of the treatment depends on factors such as the patient’s general health, bone quality and adherence to hygiene and postoperative care recommendations.
