Single implant with Ahoa

A dental implant is an artificial titanium root that is integrated into the maxillary or mandibular bone to replace the root of a lost natural tooth.

This procedure is the most effective and long-lasting solution for tooth loss, providing a solid base on which a crown, bridge or dental prosthesis is placed, restoring both the functionality and esthetics of a natural smile.

Advantages of the Unitary Implant

1 Long durability
Dental implants are known for their durability and strength. Because they are made of titanium, a biocompatible and highly resistant material, they can last a lifetime with proper care, unlike other options such as bridges or dentures that may require replacement or adjustments over time.
2 Improved quality of life
By replacing a missing tooth, the dental implant restores not only normal chewing and speaking function, but also confidence in personal appearance. This contributes significantly to the patient's quality of life, improving both physical and emotional health.
3 Prevention of bone loss
When a tooth is lost, the maxillary or mandibular bone can begin to deteriorate due to lack of stimulation. The dental implant acts as a natural root, stimulating the bone and preventing its resorption, which keeps the facial structure intact and prevents future oral health problems.
4 Natural esthetics
Dental implants integrate seamlessly with the gums and are designed to look and function like natural teeth. At Ahoa, we use state-of-the-art technology to ensure that the crown placed on the implant matches the shape, size and color of the patient's natural teeth, resulting in a completely natural smile.
5 Comfort and stability
Unlike removable dentures, dental implants offer a fixed and stable solution. This eliminates the discomfort of dentures that can move or cause irritation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the dental implant placement procedure painful?

Dental implant placement is performed under local anesthesia. In addition, conscious sedation can be applied, which minimizes any discomfort during the procedure. After surgery, it is normal to experience some swelling and discomfort that can be controlled with common painkillers such as ibuprofen. Our professionals ensure that each patient receives the proper care for a comfortable recovery, with a 24-hour follow-up to monitor recovery.

How long does both the surgical procedure and the entire dental implant process take?

The duration of the surgical treatment of a dental implant ranges from 20 minutes, a conventional implant without complementary treatments, to 60 minutes if it requires some type of adjuvant treatment, such as a bone graft.

The total treatment time can vary between 3 to 6 months. It will largely depend on the quality of the patient’s bone, which will condition the integration of the implant with the bone, a process called osseointegration. In some cases, temporary or provisional teeth can be placed until the final crown is ready.

What are the benefits of dental implants compared to other options?

Dental implants offer several benefits, including:

  • Stability and Durability: They integrate with the bone in a natural way, providing a permanent solution.
  • Improved Functionality: They allow chewing and speaking with the same efficiency as a natural tooth.
  • Bone Preservation: They help prevent bone loss that usually occurs after tooth loss.
  • Superior esthetics: They provide a natural appearance and improve the patient’s confidence and smile.
Who is an ideal candidate for a dental implant?

Anyone with good oral and general health, sufficient bone to support the implant, and no diseases that affect healing, such as uncontrolled diabetes, may be a good candidate for a dental implant. A thorough evaluation by our specialists is necessary to determine the suitability of the treatment.

What care does a dental implant require?

Dental implants require rigorous oral hygiene, similar to that of natural teeth. This includes brushing at least twice a day, flossing, and visiting the dentist regularly for checkups and professional cleanings. This care ensures the longevity of the implant and the overall health of the mouth. At the Ahoa Clinic we have an exclusive Implant Health Maintenance Program, where our patients come in for check-ups and cleaning visits every 4, 6 or 12 months, depending on their individual needs.

What is the success rate of dental implants?

Dental implants have a very high success rate, over 95%. Our own scientific research shows a 5-year success rate of 98.6%. However, success depends on factors such as patient health, bone quality and quantity, postoperative oral hygiene and professional experience.

What are the most common dental implant complications?

Although dental implants have a high success rate, some complications may arise, such as:

  • Infection: May occur at the implant site if postoperative hygiene instructions are not properly followed.
  • Implant Rejection: In rare cases, the body may reject the implant.
  • Nerve Injury or Damage: May cause pain, numbness or tingling sensation in natural teeth, gums, lips or chin.
  • Maxillary Sinus Problems: Especially in implants placed in the upper jaw, they can penetrate the maxillary sinuses.

Lack of Osseointegration: The implant does not integrate properly with the bone, which may require removal of the implant and placement of a new implant.
